Sterling Range Ridge July 31, 2008

Guides: Martha and Dick

Route: Sterling Range Hike – For a change we started on the Long Trail at the Smuggler’s Notch picnic area on Route 108 in Stowe. We went up what used to be the Elephant Head trail. The Elephant Head Overlook was open and worth the stop. We continued up the Long Trail and took a short cut through the woods to the Spruce Peak Overview. We went back to the front side of Sterling Pond and to Sterling lodge, out the Long Trail to Drifter Trail, continue on the Long Trail to Drifter again and up Drifter to the top of Madonna. Eat lunch. Went down Chilcoot ski trail to the Long Trail, into the Hansel and Grettle woods, back to Chilcoot and down to Gary B’s Northwest Passage and Ruthie’s, down to Rum Runner’s Reservoir. Down Meadowlark back to the village.
