Mt Mansfield West - August 25, 2009

Guides: Ed and Dick

Hike: We drove to Underhill State Park on the West side of Mt. Mansfield. We hiked up the CCC road to the trail head. Everyone wanted to do Halfway House Trail. At the intersection of Cancyon North and Halfway House, I took one group up to the Long Trail on the ridge. Ed went on the Canyon North trail and to the Canyon Extension and went the short way up the Subway Trail to the Long Trail. My group met Ed's group at the Subway / Long Trail intersection. We went up the Long Trail to the Chin. We at lunch at the Chin then took the Long Trail down to Route 108 for pick up.

SPECIAL EVENT:

As I hiked on the Long Trail Ridge of Mount Mansfield, I caught up to a person that sounded like and looked like our great Senator Patrick Leahy. Yes, It was him! He and his wife were doing their annual anniversary hike to the top of Vermont (this was their 47th anniversary). I have included a picture of Ed and the Senator.

Stowe Pinnacle August 20, 2009

Guides: Martha and Dick

Hike: Drove to the Stowe Pinnacle parking lot. Hiked up the trail to the Pinnacle for lunch. Hiked down the trail to the Pinnacle Meadow cutoff and down to the meadow and back to the bus. We stopped at the Brigham Falls for a quick visit. No one went swimming.

Stowe Pinnacle August 13, 2009

Guides: Martha and Dick

Hike: Drove to the Stowe Pinnacle parking lot. One group of us got off the bus and hiked up the trail to the Pinnacle. The bus drove Martha and the others to the Pinnacle Meadows parking lot. She hiked with them about an hour beyond the Pinnacle and then back to the Pinnacle to join the rest of us for lunch. Hiked down the trail to the Pinnacle Meadow cutoff and down to the meadow and back to the bus. We ate raspberries on the way.

Mt Mansfield West - August 11, 2009

Hike: We drove to Underhill State Park on the West side of Mt. Mansfield. We hiked up the CCC road to the trail head. Ed took one group up the Sunset Ridge Trail. He waited a while when the storm hit but continued up the trail to the Chin for lunch and on down the Long Trail to route 108 for pickup. Martha and I went on to the Halfway House Trail head. Martha took some onto the Maple Ridge Trail. They did get to the Forehead and on to the Hazelton trail. I took the third group up the Halfway House Trail and onto the Canyon North trail. At that point the rain started and shortly the thunder. At the Canyon Extension trail we went up to the Long Trail. Looking for the quickest shelter, we headed south. Before we got to the visitors center the weather cleared. We did continue to the Octagon for lunch. We went down Hazelton trail for pickup with Martha's group at the bottom of the gondola.

Hike: We drove to Underhill State Park on the West side of Mt. Mansfield. We hiked up the CCC road to the trail head. We all went up the Halfway House Trail. Part way up, one guest had diabetic problems. I took him back to the State Park and got picked up there. Ed then took the Canyon North trail to the Canyon Extension trail and on to the Subway. They went on the Long Trail to the Chin for lunch. They then went down the Long Trail to the bus at RT 108.
